In 2011 Seymour Street Methodist Church conducted a survey in the Low Road area of Lisburn
adjacent to the church to identify the views of the local community on the needs of the
community and how the Church could help to meet them.
It was from this initiative that Damask was formed as an independent charity working closely
with Seymour Street Methodist Church to offer a range of services and activities which the
community had identified as the most needed.
The name Damask represents two concepts; firstly that of strength achieved through the
weaving together of different strands, picking up on the desire to work in partnership with
others to build a strong community and, secondly the name Damask is rooted in Damascus
which is associated with change and Damask Community Outreach aims to provide
opportunities that will change lives and build futures.
